Generating traffic to your website can be one of the most frustrating exercises online. On the other hand it can also be rewarding and a whole bunch of fun as well… At least it can be when it works!
Clearly as the internet is becoming more sophisticated driving traffic to your site has become a lot more difficult, and can be quite challenging, particularly when you are just starting out.
There are a bunch of terms that you want to become familiar with, things like SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Social Marketing or Social traffic (using things like Facebook and Twitter), and PPC (Pay Per Click).
IF the ‘jargon’ doesn’t get you, then the thought of the competition from millions of sites online can make some people throw up their hands in defeat, before they even get started. And while it can be tough, it is by no means an impossible task.
Below are just 2 of the successful traffic generating methods that are tried and true, and if you apply yourself you can actually still make these work for you… and work very well! You just need to know how…
Unfortunately many people putting up their own website, perhaps to advertise their offline business, just don’t realize that traffic does not ‘just turn up’ on its own, at least not enough of it to make a difference.
Whether your business is on or offline, your traffic is critical, and represents your prospective customers, and obviously the more traffic you can send to your site, the more opportunity you have for people to buy your products or use your services.
Not all traffic is equal!
There are definitely ways to get oodles of traffic that is just a waste of time. It is really about quality and not quantity… but at the same time zero traffic won’t work for you either 
Your emphasis needs to be on driving high quality targeted traffic to your site. That is people who are looking for what you have to offer and ideally are ready to buy… and that is the art of generating quality traffic.
While PPC or Pay Per Click is very quick and can be very effective you really want to make sure you learn what to do or you can lose your ‘shirt’ pretty quickly… Be prepared to do a lot of research before you ‘jump in’. For the sake of this article I have mentioned some free sources of traffic which I recommend to get started.
One of the best free traffic methods…
Method 1 – Article Marketing!
Don’t let the word marketing put you off… It is really about writing helpful and useful articles and submitting these to high traffic articles directories. These articles will have a resource box and ideally a link back to your site, and will achieve a few things.
- These articles as well as giving people useful information will contain a link back to your site.
- They can help to establish you as an ‘expert’ in your niche or market.
- They get attention from the search engines who take a note of which directory this ‘content’ is on and also note that ‘link’ back to your site
Because search engines like Google like good quality content, they will frequently show your article when people type in a particular keyword or phrase into the Google search box. Of course you need to make sure that you target the ‘right’ keyword phrases in your article and this takes some research initially.
Of course this can take some time, but as you continue to submit good quality content or articles to these directories you are building both your reputation as well as the traffic back to your site.
Method 2 – Search Engine Optimization
This method does take a little bit of skill, but the basics can be learnt with loads of free information you can find on the net.
At the end I will share the best, quickest and easiest way to make sure you have an optimized site!
Firstly let me say that the whole purpose of optimizing your site is to make it ‘attractive’ to search engines, so that when people are searching for information, products or services then your site will rank pretty close to the top of the first page.
If you are not on the first page, then you might as well not be on there at all!
The more optimized your site the better your ranking, however, it will only be for specific targeted keyword phrases, so you want to make sure starting out that you have done some good keyword research to locate phrases that you can have a chance to rank for.
You will also want to make sure they are targeting good prospective customers.
Once you have identified these keywords and phrases you need to make sure that your site has useful information about these phrases as well as similar or related topics and phrases. So the content you place on the pages of your site wants to target these specific words, topics and phrases.
You will also want to make sure your meta tags are all relevant and you will also want to pay attention to linking within your site.
Keep in mind that whatever you do on your site, wants to provide good quality information and how it is structured wants to be easy to navigate and look ‘natural’ to the search engines.
Now for the big tip!
The easiest way to accomplish this is to use a WordPress platform for your site. I can’t stress enough how beneficial this will be not only for ease of use but also for creating an optimized site that search engines, particularly Google will love!
Using WordPress is really pretty easy to learn and just by using some well chosen ‘plugins’ you can have a great looking and optimized site in almost no time.
Clearly, what I have provided here is very basic information, however, if you think you are all over it, then you will definitely want to go and get some of the most superb traffic freebies I have seen online.
