Ok… I will admit right up… I have procrastinated about video, and one of the reasons I am writing an article on how to make your own YouTube video, is a direct result of my own research.

Obviously, the Internet and Video on the net has moved very fast over the last couple of years, and if you want a business online, then it is not really about ‘if’ you will use Video but rather ‘when’.
The sooner the better, if you want to take your business to the next level, or if you want to jumpstart your own online business. While the idea of making your own video can be somewhat intimidating for a bunch of reasons, it really is not as difficult as it sounds.

So…. where do you start? Well let’s assume you have a niche, or a market that you are already working with. (Clearly if you don’t then you need to go back and get into niche research… another topic).
Let’s say you have an idea about a video you want to make, (one of the most popular is a ‘how to’ video). You will obviously need a recording device.
This is easier than ever… You can even use your mobile phone if you wish, depending on the type of video you have in mind. Another, simple and popular method is to use screen capture along with your webcam. This is where most people start out. A number of benefits include; you don’t have to have yourself on the video, you can use a combination of screen shots including a PowerPoint presentation.
It is always a good idea to plan out your video including your script, and it really doesn’t matter if you have to do a few ‘takes’. Just remember, it really doesn’t have to be perfect.
When you make a video for YouTube, it is important to understand there are limitations. For example the length of your video is limited to 10 mins. Now for most marketing purposes this is not a problem but an advantage, and you would be well to keep these types of videos, short and to the point.
If you really want to put a longer video up there, then you can obviously break it up into parts, as there is no limit to how many videos you post.
Another limit is the size of your video. Your video will need to be less than 100MB. This is another reason for keeping it short. You want to get the best quality while keeping the size of the file reasonable.
You should of course read their terms of use agreement before posting any videos.
Another big tip with video, is go all out to get the audio quality the best you can. Obviously, you want the visual to be good too, but people will put up with a little less than great visual… usually they won’t put up with a crappy audio!
You will also need a movie making software, and while Camtasia is excellent, there are some free options which are great for getting started. These include Windows Movie Maker on your PC or if you are an Apple fan they come with iMovie.
These programs will allow you to edit as you wish, and save in the format that you require to get your video online.
Now for the fun part of how to make your own YouTube video… uploading it to YouTube.
First you must sign up and create your account with YouTube. This is easy, but keep in mind that what you put here will be seen and related to any content you are putting up, so you might want to make your account relevant to the niche you are working in.
Once you are signed up, you should see an option that allows you to create or upload your videos. Just follow the directions. Obviously, depending on what type of Internet connection you have, the time it will take to upload will vary, but it should only take a few minutes.
Once you have achieved your goal and learned how to make your own YouTube video, then you will definitely want to learn how you can maximise the opportunity for getting traffic to your website.
